We need your help in making the Admin Fixes Campaign Successful. We are organizing a Southern California IV Meetup and Letter Signing Event this Weekend. We are targeting to get a 1000 letters signed and sent to the White House from our group. We need volunteers to print letter templates, get envelopes/stamps and most importantly bring family, friends and colleagues to this event. Please see below for details about the Venue.

This is NOT what I said in my post. I mentioned "Dependent Relationship". Dependent Visa applies in most cases, though. Example - Your wife could be on F1 or other visa and that is not dependent visa.

I agree 100% with jthomas above...moving from a secured job is not advisable in this market..I lived in Atlanta for a few years recently and can shed some light on the place..
Even if you have a secured job/contract, it would take a while to get into the new work environment and unless you are absolutely undisposable, you would be on the list of maybe's being a new-hire.
I will leave the job judgement upto you..
Regarding the place..
I moved from chicago to atlanta as well...the place is quite warm and not too hot like dallas...greener and more relaxed..
Again this depends on your job, dunwoody is a better place..it is in north suburbs..unlike chicago, you can drive downtown to work if you are working downtown...and also unlike chicago most companies in downtown have their own parking and you dont have to pay extra..
Rent is cheap..I used to rent a townhome in chicago suburbs for 1500$ and I can get a townhome in downtown atlanta for 1000$..you can calculate from that..
though I lived downtown atlanta for a while..i strongly suggest if you have family to avoid living in downtown..it is not safe and not a place for kids and family to relax and roam around...
I dont know how long you lived in chicago..but once you move you will definitely miss the vibrant life of chicago...atleast i did..lot of indian restaurants in atlanta but none of them are decent...
positives: weather, cost of living
negatives: avg. city life, lesser job opportunities(compared to chicago)
I am not sure which way my suggestions tilt above..just a disclaimer..i lived in chicago for ~6yrs and absoutely love the place...that might have clouded my judgement a bit..but you can take what suits you from it...

thanks for sharing ur insight..iam in Chicago, althought not right in downtown, I do agree with the vibrant nature of the city and people in it...cant beat the commute facilities too, downsides, yes, terrible terrible winters, high cost of living...etc..its JUne and it still low 50's..:)

Chanduv23, When you moved to another employer, did they give you a permanent offer letter for your GC process that you would attach with the Ac21 documents or did you use the employment letter that they gave for joining the new company?? Yes, the wording is very important. When I sent the AC21 documentation, it was just a letter explaining employment details and particulars, but when I replied to NOID, they specifically requested "prospects of employment" - and we responded as "this is a full time permanent job and the prospects are good" - which means they see it as future employment.
As long as you have worked for original employer for a good period of time, stick to your skills, have good w2 history, you don't have to worry - you can always show that your prospects are good.
Though Green card if for future employment - the entire process revolves around how best you fit the future employment category - AC21 is one such rule that gives you room and flexibility.

I agree - the UK govt's policy statement, at least on the doctor's issue was clear : "We had a shortage earlier, therefore we needed foreign doctors. The shortage no longer exists, so we no longer need you. Please leave before mm-dd-yyyy". Contrast that with the US govts "we love your brains but hate your bodies policy" .. on one hand corporations cannot do without foreign skilled labor, at the same time folks like Lou FOULMOUTH and his cronies in congress and elsewhere cannot do without bashing them. In the tug-of-war between these two parties, we are left to rot on the sidelines - neither kicked out, nor allowed a rightful place to progress in society. If thats the case, why don't they simply remove the dual intent clause (and all those 1-yr / 3yr dole-outs aka extensions) from the H1-B program ? Thats better than having to live 15 years on an H1-B.
UK is at lease clear what is their immigration policy. I would like to have similar stand from US Govt where they come out and say in clear words "we don't want to in here" OR "Come here, work for 6 years and leave" OR "we cant you to stay and fix the GC process.

I don't think the data is right, though I can see my Labor filed under PERM and it shows status as 'Denied' but I have my labor approved and applied for I-140. Not sure why?

The job description is the key. Titles dont matter. My official title at my company is "programmer level 3".( I am an Oracle programmer)

But the JOB DESCRIPTION must be accurate.(As much as possible, there is a limit to how much 10 lines can do in describing your job).
As far as resume is concerned, didnt your lawyer look at your resume before filing labor? I remember my lawyer consulting my HR, my boss and my resume before writing the job description on my labor so that its accurate. Anyways, resume is something that is subject to change all the time and I dont think USCIS expects you to have your resume in line with your job desc on labor. Resume is about your qualifications and abilities - which may or may not be the same thing that your actually perform at your work.

hi guys,
my first post at IV.
I got tired of waiting for my GC and so moved to UK last year on HSMP. After end of 11 months being in UK on HSMP, i filed for extension and received a 4 year "Resident Permit" in 2 weeks.
So in another 3.5 yrs, will be filing for 'Permanent Residency' and after another 1 year for Citizenship. :)
Here's another forum which i used and is VERY useful if anyone wants to move.

From my OWN experience:
The PROS
- Simple straight forward process :)
- definate timeline on residence permit/permanent residency/citizenship
- spouse gets same level of rights i.e.wife can work & study with any probs
- family eligible for NHS (even if u dont have a job)
- 1 month leave is standard; worst employers give only 4 weeks :p
- kids have fun, get 'british' education (including school uniforms) and most of all, my kids GK has expanded vastly (knows and hear more abt rest of the world)
- trips to Europe easy and inexpensive (weekend drive to paris is 2.5 hrs and approx 300GBP for family of 4 ;) )
- excellent public transport system
- India is only 8 hrs flight and timezone difference only 5 hrs.
- get to watch and 'play' cricket
- my british friends love "curry" and eat more 'spicier' then mine
- having a pint during lunch is 'normal'
The CONS:
- VERY expensive place; u make and u spend, have fun but not much savings
- JOB market is LOUSY - not easy to get a job
- Jobs are not as high paying compared to USA, plus u are expected to do more (bit like india)
- smaller houses, cars, roads, etc
- no real burgers or tacos
- after some time u start missing USA
Again, finding a job is very difficult and it does not pay as much as in US. But its not impossible either, i got one ;)

My lawyer filed her I-485 on July 16'th and the application was delivered on July 17'th , We got to know about the approval from the USCIS website on July 18'th On July 16'th,17'th atleast till 9:00 PM EST status said My Case is Pending approval
Till now I hav'nt got any physical notice (Lawyers confirmed the same)

In a summary, when PD is current, people with the earliest RD would get GC first. Your PD HAS to be CURRENT to be eligible for a visa number.

Which service center did you applied to. I have similar PD (8/22/05) and EB2 NIW at TSC.
